For the last five years we have had a number of 'Moth Nights' at the orchard, ran by the Warwickshire branch of the Butterfly Conservation Trust.
We knew we had a number of different species of butterfly and moth but these nights have revealed just how many.
To date they have recorded thousands of moths from over 400 different species.
One of the rarest moths is the Clifden Nonpareil.
The Clifden Nonpareil was considered extinct in the UK for around 60 years and became a "holy grail"
for moth recorders. At some point during the last decade it made a small return. Until the summer of 2018, which seemed to spur it on and in 2019 it was
found in many locations.
It is one of largest moths (about the size of the whole palm of your hand) and a true stunner. One species we
never tire of seeing.
